Sculpture
Sculpture A highlight of sculpture with its beautiful sculptures was in ancient Greece "... When the flowering of Greek sculpture had just begun, man still felt something in himself of his etheric body, which contains the actual creative growth forces of man. ... It was therefore that which the Greek sculptor entrusted to matter, an inner experience; it was that which was then pressed into the clay or the plasticine, not looked at externally with the eyes - this is how this line, this surface goes - but it was actually an inner experience which was recreated by the creative forces of nature and which was entrusted to the outer substance", (B206, 26.8.1923). The Greek sculptors still had a perception of the etheric forces of the human body. "The sculptor does nothing else but imitate the form of the etheric body", (B161, p.123). It is not a naturalistic or abstract modelling, but an artistic process of mental perception. "In sculpture, in the art of sculpture, one looks at man spiritually, as he is placed in the present..." (B161, 2.6.1923). Visualization of the secret etheric forces. "... the sculpture points to the way in which man in his earthly form participates directly in the spiritual, how he continually overcomes the earthly-naturalistic, how he is the expression of the spiritual in each of his individual forms and in his entire design", (B161, 2.6.1923). Thus a perception of the etheric currents of forces formed into a sculpture. "We must, therefore, when we seek the laws of sculpture, be clear that they are the laws of our aetheric body", (B173, 29.12.1914). The disposition of the etheric body goes back to the ancient times of the old solar existence. "All that which the old solar existence has implanted in man becomes present in the enjoyment or creation of the sculpture", (B173, 30.12.1914). The living effect of a form results from the curvatures, the changing curvature of the surfaces, the relations of the surfaces to each other. "One can therefore experience, by entering into that which works and creates on the human organism in the etheric body, how, with a certain progressive necessity, each individual surface that limits the human organism outwardly creates itself out of these inner forces. One can see in the imagination the formation of man in creative movement. ... Spiritual insight into that which works and lives in the human form gives true instruction for the sculptor, for the creator", (B196, 23.8.1921). The sculptor perceives the etheric power effects of the power currents in the rooms and outdoors. He can shape his sculptures according to these existing currents of forces and thus remove geomantic, etheric disturbances from these places and rooms. A beautiful, true sculpture corresponding to the place can heal unhealthy, disease-causing places.
