Architecture
Architecture The human physical body needed very special forms and shapes so that soul and spirit could embody themselves in it. The same applies to our earthly environment, in which forms, surfaces, lines, colours and materials it is designed, determines the relationship we can have to it. Architecture can help or hinder us to find our way to true humanity. In its development, architecture comes from the desire of the soul of the deceased to help them on their way into the spiritual world. "The burial vaults, the funerary monuments, the funerary arts were developed, which essentially first of all were supposed to represent in their forms what must be there for the soul so that when it is exposed to the physical body, it does not bump into animals, plants, minerals, but finds its way back into the spiritual world along the architectural lines", (B161, 1.6.1923). The pictorial forces of the etheric body form and shape our physical body. These forces, as they do in the physical body, work in just such lines, forms, surfaces and these force relationships are subject to changes, metamorphoses, especially in the time between death and new birth. If we can experience these interrelationships of forces and bring them into a physical form, then we have what can be called a new spiritual architecture. "...if we detach this system of forces from ourselves and arrange the matter according to it, then the architecture will be created". (B173, 29.12.1914). Today's architectural task is to design functional and functional buildings so that they correspond to the respective force relationships in their forms and colours. "So the work of art is actually only stimulated by the forms that are there. The work of art is that which the soul experiences by experiencing along the forms", (B173, 28.12.1914). Buildings which in their forms and lines correspond to the ideas, processes, works and the natural environment taking place in them, and whose spaces and neighbouring buildings turn out to be metamorphoses of the one into the other. We develop architecture by experiencing the effects of the forces of our physical body. This experience also takes us back to the time of origin of the physical body, to the old Saturn period. "A distant past and a putting oneself into this Saturn existence, which man achieves by creating architecture ...", (B173, 30.12.1914). Every building - office, production and living space - can be designed to correspond to what mankind does in it. This can be seen most clearly in cult buildings, temples and churches, which should bring people celebrating the service closer to God. The first Goetheanum is such a building and temple corresponding to the present state of development of mankind. A temple building as a building of the spoken word of the divine spiritual world. Spiritual word that expresses itself in artistic forms and colours. In columns, forms, coloured motif windows, capitals, architrave and ceiling paintings. It is a building that speaks to people in visible forms and visible works. "In contrast to the care with which the attempt was made in Dornach to avoid any symbolism, any allegoricism in the building and art forms and to allow the anthroposophical impulse to flow out into pure real art, ...", (B155, 23.1.1923). From spiritual revelation in keeping with the times, love flows from the spiritual world. Love becomes revelation and love becomes temple building. "... the waves of hatred that were kindled in civilized humanity between 1914 and 1918. In Dornach, while hatred raged all around, real love ruled and was built into the construction. It was that love which comes from the spirit... For Anthroposophy, ideas are the vessels made of love, into which the human being is spiritually drawn from spiritual worlds. Shrouded in lovingly shaped thoughts, the light of true humanity should shine through anthroposophy ... Therefore, in the midst of raging hatred, a place of love could be built in Dornach", (B155, 23.1.1923). To build such temples would be the task of mankind today, to build places of worship for the way of worship that is justified today. Worship services as a spiritual-scientific quest for knowledge, as a spiritual-scientific, anthroposophical university and knowledge work.
